The best way to get started in coin collecting is to begin looking at the coins that you get each day. Find ones that have mint dates that have meaning to you. Birthdays are special mint dates, anniversaries, family birthdays or special events.
Next purchase coins that have not been circulated. The uncalculated coins can be purchased at face value and any bank.
The State coins are fun to look for. A good way to get started in coin collecting is to try to find coins of all fifty states. If you want to add something a little extra special to the collection find the coins that were minted in Denver and also the ones minted in San Francisco.
Collecting newer coins is a lot of fun too. You can either purchase them at the bank or keep checking when you get change. If there’s a shiny coin in your change put it into your coin collection.
If you attend an event that has meaning to you then it is special to keep a coin or two from this event. Try to find the
coins that are minted on that date, if you can’t find one minted on that date then make note of the date you went to the special event.
Once a few coins have been collected get a coin book to put them in. Some books are made where you can write about the coins you have in your collection. It is interesting to write where you go the coin and what, if any, importance the mint date has to you.
Coin collecting is a lot of fun and can begin wherever you are as long as you have coins in your possession.
